Hello and happy Friday! Can you believe it’s August already? The summer is just absolutely flying by!
Those of you who follow me on instagram know that I’m currently working on 3 different areas of the house: the nursery, the master bathroom as well as the hallway. Nothing is even remotely near a state of completion right now but I thought I would give you all an update nonetheless.
We haven’t got very far with the nursery but we do have a lovely new rug and a coat of primer on all doors. The mid century dresser that we are refinishing has been sanded and has a coat of stain, but needs another followed by some poly. Thankfully, I managed to get all the dings and scratches out of it which was really quite thrilling for me!
Sticking with the nursery and looking at the picture above, the first picture is what we started with (originally the guest room). You can see that the floors are in pretty bad shape in this room so we’re just covering all that up with a lovely rug that I picked up for 70% off at Rugs USA! Gotta love a huge rug for only $250. It’s got a cute houndstooth pattern which actually reminds me of puzzle pieces – so it’s perfect for the nursery! FYI – the sale is running until August 4th so snap up some deals while you can!
So while I was painting the doors in the nursery I decided to continue into the hall. By the way, I’m using Kilz Premium zero-voc water-based primer. It contains no solvents which is absolutely necessary if you want to paint while pregnant. So far, it’s doing just as good a job as the oil-based Kilz that I usually use and it’s only about $4 extra in price. Mind you, for the sake of being able to do this project myself and not having to wait for my lovely hubby to squeeze it into his schedule, I gladly would have paid a heck of a lot more!
I’m determined to have this nursery 90% finished before I return to work in 3 weeks! *Fingers crossed*
I know I say this a ton but white trim and doors is so transformative in a dark home. Instead of sucking light in (like our stained doors did) the newly painted white doors throw out light and completely brighten the space.
I still have the hall closet door left to prime but you can already see what a huge difference the white makes. And, once the semi-gloss topcoat goes on it will look even better.
Unfortunately, the bathroom is moving along as slowly as ever. I’ve fixed the massive hole in the wall and added a new faucet to the sink (thank you National Builder Supply!). Next up will be to tile a fresh new backsplash!
I threw this picture up on Facebook a couple of weeks ago and the general consensus seemed to be #3 – the same tile we currently have in our downstairs bathroom. If it ain’t broke, right?!
The faucet in the first two pics is actually the new one that we received from National Builder Supply. Fancy, huh?!
Anywhoooo, that’s what I’ve been busy with. In between napping and eating of course. Pregnancy really is awesome. Awesome at slowing me down!!
Have a great weekend everyone!
